Dorsey, Sr.
March 31, 1927 – November 8, 2018
John Marshall Dorsey, Sf. was born on March 31, 1927 to the late Goldie
Beasley and John Henry Dorsey. He departed this life Thursday, Novem-
ber 8, 2018 at 6:22 p.m. at the University of Maryland Medical Center
surrounded by family.
Marshall as he was affectionately called, was born and raised in Howard
County, Maryland. He was educated in the Howard County School
System. He worked various jobs throughout his life until he retired.
He received Christ early on at Shiloh A.M.E. Church in Baltimore City.
He also attended St. James Methodist Church and was a devoted member
of his most recent church House of Prayer Restoration. He loved visiting,
singing, and mingling with other devoted members of Christ.
Marshall met, courted and married the late Sarah Ellen Tellington in
1948. He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, brother, grandfather, and
friend. He loved taking pictures and conversing with new people. He also
enjoyed singing, talking and eating.
John is survived by: two sisters, Louise Dorsey and Theresa Jones; one
brother, Joseph Dorsey; four daughters, Beatrice Brown (Bruce), Barbara
Scovens (Morgan), Marsha Dorsey (Morris), and Glenda Williams-Blue
(James); also, twenty grands, forty-three great grands, thirty-four great-
great grands, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death: six brothers, Dennis, Charles, Louis, McKinley,
Carroll, and Daniel; three sisters, Catherine, Virginia and Elizabeth; three
sons, Robert, Anthony and John, Jr; one daughter, Sherreti .
Special thanks to his grandson, Robert Scovens, Jr. (Nu-Nu) his caregiver
until his departure.
