John Wilson Polk, the only child of the late Bridie Redfern, was born on December 31, 1923 in Monroe, North Carolina. He departed this life at Johns Hopkins Hospital on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 following a two year battle with cancer. He received his education at Marshville colored High School, as it was known. In 1943 John married the former Margie Jean McKeythan and settled in New York City. To this union three children were born; John Lewis Johnny, Donald and Felicia. John retired from Northside Savings Bank in 1985 after twenty years of service. He loved New York City and remained there until 2008 when he relocated to Baltimore, Maryland to be closer to his daughter. John was preceded in death by his wife, Margie and two sons Johnny and Donald. He will forever be remembered by his beloved daughter Felicia; treasured grandchildren, Arden, Derrick and Trelane; caring daughter-in-law, Yvonne; great-grandchildren, Derrick, Melvin, Aaron, Toniya, Azzurea, Armani, Ablessyn and Trinity; and a host of other friends and family who were blessed to know him. John enjoyed laughing, being with his family and having fun with friends. John touched the live of many people with his smile and words of wisdom, and maintained his trademark sense of humor.
