Obituary

A native of York County, Virginia, John Henderson Thomas, affectionately known as "Mickey", was born to the late Mary Lee Slade and James Willie Thomas on May 29, 1933. He was a sibling of nine brothers and two sisters. John grew up in the Cary's Chapel Community and attended Cary's Baptist Church. John later graduated from York County Trade School where he was certified as a carpenter. He later used his carpentry skills to build a permanent home for his wife and children. The home where he took his last breath. John was an avid baseball player for the Pequoson Athletic Team in 1949. While visiting his brother in Pasadena, Maryland, John met and later married Mary Caldwell in 1951. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 during the Korean War. Alter an honorable discharge from the Army, John was employed as a professional meat cutter with Swift Premium Meat Company and later retired from Armour Meats in 1995. John left this earth peacefully cradled in the arms of his loving wife on October 22, 2012. Left to cherish his memory are; his wife, Mary Caldwell Thomas; his sons, Don, Dwight and John Jr.Sandy; and his daughter, Natosha Thomas. John and Mary have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are; their special goddaughters, daughter Kisa McRae and Sheila Bushrod; and a host of other relatives and friends.
