Rev. John R. Wilson was born in Occupacia, Essex County, Virginia on August 6, 1932 to the proud parents of the late Harry and Mary Wilson. He departed this life to go home and be with the Lord after celebrating his 82nd birthday on August 19, 2014. He was one of eighteen children. John received his education in the Virginia public school system. After graduation from Essex County High School he enter the U. S. Army where he served three years as a sergeant, receiving an honorable discharge, He later came to Baltimore and became employed at University Hospital where he met the love of his life, Beatrice Edwards. They were married in 1956. He fathered three children, John L. Wilson (deceased), Gregory Wilson (deceased) and Carla Wilson Batty. In 1956 John joined the fire department. He was in the second class of Black firefighters for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1984. John joined the First Corinthians Baptist Church in 1959. The church was located on Division Street. The Late Rev. John Henry Mason was pastor. He accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior. He had a great interest in reading the bible. He attended Bible School. He also taught Sunday Schoolfor 40 years. John held the position of Chairman of the Deacon Board for many ears. He was an avid photographer and volunteer, mentoring young men of the family. John will be remembered for his playful demeanor, love of family and generosity. John was soft spoken and never too busy to listen or to give works or encouragement. He was loved and respected. He was a loving father and spent quality time with his children and grandchildren. On Tuesday, August 19, 2014 John passed away. Loving memories will be cherished by his loving wife, Beatrice Wilson, one daughter, Carla Wilson Batty, two grandsons, Charles Kevin Maywood and Demetrious Wilson; one granddaughter, Dawn Simms (Andre); three grandsons, Andre, Norris and Eric; three sisters, Ada Johnson Lloyd of Alexandria, Virginia, Helen Blagmon of Washington, DC and Florence Woodcock; one brother, William Robert Wilson (Betty) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Iva Wilson; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
