Obituary

John Edward Winslow, Sr. son of the late Willie and Minnie Winslow, was born on May 10, 1925 in Nansemond County, Virginia. He was one of eleven children. He departed this life on December 11, 2006 after a short illness. John was baptized at an early age at Union Baptist Church in Shoulders Hill, Virginia in Suffolk, Virginia. He attended school in Nansemond County. Before being drafted into the United States Army, John worked at the Norfolk Navy Yard. After he was honorably discharded from the U.S. Army, he returned to his job at the Navy Yard. On October 25, 1947, John married Emma Carney. From this union they were blessd with nine daughters and one son. Their union was such a strong bond that it lasted for fify-nine years. Shortly after their union, John migrated to Baltimore to provide a beter life for his family. He attended GI School for tailoring. Later, was employed at General Motors Corporation. John worked at GM for thirty-two years until retirement. Loingly known to family and friends as ''Boody Boy,'' John enjoyed attending familygatherings as well as cooking and tailoring for his family. He also enjoyed gathering at the mall with his buddies and attending union meetings. What John most enjoyed was spending time with his grandchildren sharing humorous stories. He leaves behind to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Emma; a sister Lillie Mae Pope of Suffolk, Virginia; seven 7 daughters, Joann Trusty, Karen Thomas of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Diane Winslow, Pamela Monger Carl, Sharon Winslow-Robinson Richard, Debra Winslow and Denise King Theodore; eleven 11 grandchildren, twelve 12 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
