Obituary

Joseph Daniel Alston, lovingly known as "JD," went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 12, 2012 after a lengthy illness. JD was born on March 26, 1923 to the lat Mattie and James Alston. He was born in Highpoint, North Carolina and at a young age he decided to relocate to Baltimore, Maryland. JD was a happy and joyous man who loved dancing while cabereting with friends and family. JD loved to travel with his soulmate Willie Mae Alston who preceded him in death and they loved to vacation in Jamaica. JD will be remembered as an avid sports fan, loving the Baltimore Colts, Orioles and Ravens. As often as possible, JD enjoyed visiting family and spending quality time with his his siblings in HIghpoint, North Carolina. JD was employed at Armco Steel and retired after forty-plus years of dedicated service. While employed he was recognized for his outstanding work and received several awards and citations. Joseph Daniel Alston was preceded in death by his loving wife, Willie Mae Alston; his adorable daughter, Denise Boyd; two brothers, James and Carson Alston; three sisters, Daisy White, Louise borders and Ida Alston Ginyard; brothers-in-law, Arthur Boyd, Nathaniel Boyd and John Boyd; two sisters-in-law, Stella Boyd and Clarice Boyd. Surviving relatives; one son, Rev. Dwight Thomas, Sr.; two grandchildren, Kendra E. Haywood Thomas and Dwight Thomas, Jr., one great-grandchild, Kaylen L. Martinez; goddaughter, Marlene Greene; three nieces, Bete, Margaret and Mattie Alston; one nephew, Carson H. Alston, Jr.; one great-niece, Renee' Haskins; several other nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
