Butler
July 9, 1936 – September 10, 2018
Joseph F. Butler, was born on July 9, 1936 and gained his wings on
September 10, 2018. Joseph was born to Shafter and Elizabeth
Butler who preceded him in death. Joseph had three brothers Frank,
Leroy and Lewis who had preceded him in death also.
Joseph was well-known as Joe, Blacky and Stink, was educated in
St. Mary's County School System, until he left to go to work to help
the family. Joseph then moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he held
several jobs as a house painter, a crab picker and a sanitation worker,
he was a jack-of-all- trades.
He met and married Dorothy Putty until her death.
Joseph loved to sing the oldies and dance 2 up 2 back and rock it back
into the madison, was his favorite steps. Cooking was something else
he enjoyed doing for family and friends, telling jokes and just enjoying
life was what he was about. Putting on his suits and alligator shoes
evenif he wasn't going anywhere but to sit and listen to gospel music.
He leaves to mourn: his children, Lillie Grade, Christine
Butler-Isaac, Darlene Butler-Gilliam, Glenda Adams, Rita
Smallwood, Monica Harper, Joe Butler Jr., Dorrence Putty
and Edward Smallwood;his lifetime friend Ada Alford; five
nephews, Nathaniel Phillips,Lewis Butler 2nd, Lewis Butler 3rd,
Wayne Butler, and Michael Butler; two nieces Mary Ellen Griggs
and Alice Bell; three sons-in-laws, Jerome Gilliam, Franklin Harper
and Hayward Isaac; one brother-in-law, James Fields; one sister-
in-law, Virginia Fields; 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren
and a host of family and friends.
