Joseph Nathaniel McCoy, son of the late Murray and Elizabeth Ireane Middleton McCoy, was born on March 13, 1939 in the Fairfield Community of Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on Sunday, August 10, 2008. "Joe," as he was known to most of us, was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and was a graduate of Carver Vocational High School. Upon graduating from high school in 1957 he went to work for private industry in retail sales. Soon afterwards, he began working for the State of Maryland, Department of Motor Vehicles. With the encouragement from his aunt Doretha, Joe decided to seek employment with the Federal Government. He accepted employment with the Social Security Administration, where he held many positions. Joe was a person who was always interested in advancing. At the time of his retirement, He was a Deputy Module Manager in the Office of International Affairs. At a very early age, Joe was baptized into Catholicism. He late became a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherry Hill. Several years later, he changed his membership to United Baptist Church. In 1984, he joined the First Baptist Church of Baltimore, later became a deacon and enjoyed working with that ministry. He was a faithful, active member. Visiting the patients at Sykesville Nursing Home was one of his greatest joys. Joe's memory will be cherished by; his two brothers, David and Richard McCoy brother William preceded him in death; two aunts, Mary V. Fuller and Doretha M. Barnes; three uncles, John, Richard and Frederick Middleton; caring in-laws, Ada Middleton and Ernest H. Barnes; a cherished nephew and godson, Devin MAcCoy; a great-niece, Dyvin Bromley; a multitude of devoted cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
