Sgt. Joseph Edwin Prince was born on September 30, 1959 to the late Charles Murray Prince, Sr. and Joan Drayton Prince in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He completed his earthly journey on August 6, 2026 at the Loch Raven VA Medical Center, Endor-Garden-Lakeside, Maryland.

Joseph (Joe) accepted Christ as Lord and Savior during a service lead by his beloved cousin, Evang. Dr. Harrolee Gibbons.

Joe received his education in the Maryland Public Schools System of Prince George's County and was a part of the Fairmont Heights Class of 1979. In 1980, Joe married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Handon Prince, and this union rendered two children; Jahkira and Joseph Jr. (L.J) Following graduation, he proudly served six years in the United States Army--95C MP Company-(Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Ft. Hood, TX and Ft. Dix NJ), living by its motto, "This We'll Defend" - a creed of loyalty and selfless service that defined his life in and out of uniform. He continued that spirit of service with a nine-year tenure employed with the Kansas Department of Corrections (Army Corrections Command: Ft Leavenworth). His final duty was at the Veterans Administration Hospital of Baltimore in ER-Environmental Services.

Over the course of Joe's sixty-six meaningful years, he built a life marked by integrity, resilience, and steadfast devotion to those whom he loved. From an early age, he understood the value of hard work, loyalty, and the quiet responsibility of caring for family. Known for his calm spirit and thoughtful nature, he gave his time generously and his support without hesitation. His counsel brought reassurance, and his steady smile reflected a man who faced life with dignity and quiet confidence. Though he is deeply missed, Joe's legacy lives on in the principles he upheld, the family he nurtured, and the love that continues to bind them together. Joe will be deeply missed for his genuine smile and quiet, caregiving spirit, a natural protector, he faithfully watched over his brothers. He found great joy in hobbies of carpentry, building and remodeling, and refurbishing cars. Most of all, he delighted in attending family gatherings.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory, he beloved wife of forty-six years, Jacqueline Handon Prince of home; one daughter, Jahkira Prince of Baltimore, Maryland; one son, Joseph (L.J) Prince Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandsons, Chayse Prince of Baltimore, Maryland; Kayson Jackson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Jo'syah of South Boston, Virginia; one brother, Terrance Prince of Washington, District of Columbia; nephews, Alex Brantley and Eric Handon Jr.; a great-niece, Jamari Handon; and a host of aunts, an uncle, cousins, friends, and comrades.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his parents-in-law Wilbert & Barbara Handon; brother-in-law, Eric Handon Sr.; sister-in-law Scharleen Blackmom, and his elder brother, Charles Murray Jr.
