Obituary

Joseph Louis "Joe" Salter , son of the late William and Annie Salter
began his journey on earth on May 20, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland.
He departed this life on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Bon
Secours Hospital.

Joe received his education in the Baltimore City Public School
System and graduated from Carver Vocational Technical High
School. He was employed in the dry cleaning industry upon comple-
tion of high school. He later worked as a laborer in the Construction
Industry and the Baltimore Brick Co. During his later years he
worked as a custodian and his last source of employment was with
the Coppin Academy.

Joe was a member of Hope Alive Ministry Deliverance Fellowship
under the pastoral care of Dr. Basha P. Jordan, Jr. where he made a
confession of faith in Christ. The past few years, he attended Do-
swell Cathedral. On Sundays when he did not physically attend
church, he would often sit outside and listen to the services- especial-
ly the singing.

Joe loved people, especially children and could always be found
playing cards, dancing and acting silly with his grandchildren and
others. Joe had a lot of energy, and was affectionately called "Joe-
Joe" by his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, the children from Hope
Alive and the neighborhood. Joe was vivacious, jovial and fun
loving.

Joe was an avid bowler earning the name "Smokn Joe". He loved
baseball, football and basketball in addition to his passion of live
horse racing and playing cards. He loved to sing Jerry Butler's "For
Y our Precious Love" and was often called on to sing his favorite
song at family gatherings.

We thank God for the new beginning for Joe. His memory shall live
on in his wife of forty-four years, Shelia; two daughters, Danita
Moore (Jeff) and Rena Renee Rodgers; his adoring grand children,
Dante and Jade Moore, Chandler Barkley and Chanae Rodgers; two
great grand daughters, Aurdin Barkley and Phoenix Kimble; two
sisters, Loretta Salter and Delores Hamilton; two brothers, Herbert
(Arlene) and John Salter (Priscilla); Sister-in-law, Rose Salter; many
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in
death by four brothers, Jack, Alfonso, Daniel, and Willie and one
sister Irene Salter.
