Obituary

Joyce V. Carter, beloved daughter of the late Thomas Sampson and Dekota Wilson Stanley was born on February 27, 1953 in Dorchester County, Maryland. Joyce departed this life to eternal rest on May 11, 2017 at the Bon Scours Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Joyce received her education in both the Dorchester County and Baltimore City Public School Systems. As an adult, she worked as a Public School Bus Attendant and Food Service Assistant. Her employment career also included The Social Security Administration and bartending along the way.

She married her first husband Aaron Herbert. From this union one daughter, the late Nadine Erica Herbert, was born. Erica was the joy of her mother's life. She entered matrimony a second time marrying Milford Carter.

Joyce loved life and her family very much, especially her nieces and nephews. She took pleasure in dancing, listening to music, cooking, watching wrestling/television and her newest best friend, the Amazon Echo. As a daughter of the Great Southern Temple Elks Lodge #30, she enjoyed participating in events, activities and taking trips.

Joyce was full of laughter and fun to be around, except when she was cheering for her favorite team, The Pittsburgh Steelers. With her easy going ways she often helped others, she may have fussed about it, but she did it any way.

While watching the sun rise, she adored the warmth on her skin at her brother's home in Georgia. She would say, "You can have winter, give me summer any day ... everyday is alright with me." Just like the rays of the sun, she filled each room she entered greeting folks by name and if she didn't know your name, she acknowledged you with her affectionate greeting of, "Hey there".

Joyce is survived by: five siblings, Velma Stanley, Mark Stanley and Lakesha Brown all of Baltimore, MD, Theresa (Roy) Niskey of Salisbury, MD and Darren Stanley of Ray City, GA; one aunt, Gloria Bailey of Baltimore, MD; two uncles, Cokeland Wilson of Cambridge MD, and Royce (Jerlean) Sampson of Easton, MD; two nephews, Curtis (Nichelle) and Roland III; four nieces, Shaniqua, Lashawn, Natalie and Laila; one great nephew, Jayden; four great nieces, BreShae, Shawne', Janeya and Reagan. Special friend, Robert and friends Tishie, Ronald, PJ and her phone tag mate cousin, Janice. Along with a host of loved ones and friends.

She's now resting and has reunited with her daughter, Erica; her parents, Thomas, Dekota and step father, Roland Stanley Sr; brothers, Rome, Kevin, Gregory and Todd Stanley; and several family and friends that preceded her in death.
