Joyce Marie (Hughes) Munson cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt; treasured co-worker and friend peacefully departed this life on Saturday, October 5, 2024 after a lengthy illness. She died at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland with her son, Roy, Jr. by her side. Her resilience and determination were an inspiration to all that knew her.

Joyce was the first child born to Wilbert and Etta Hughes in Baltimore City and was welcomed into her family on January 20, 1948. She spent most of her childhood in the neighborhoods in East Baltimore. Joyce received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools graduating from Dunbar High School's Nursing Program.

Joyce found employment with Johns Hopkins Hospital where she faithfully worked for thirty(30) years as a dedicated nurse. Shortly thereafter, she met and married Roy B. Munson, Sr. She began the road to motherhood with the birth of her sons, Roy Jr. and Troy. Joyce later had a daughter whom she named Joyetta. As the years went by, Joyce opened her home to many family members and foster children. She provided a loving and nurturing environment. She also provided comfort and
nursing care to her mother and brothers until their passing.

Joyce was a devoted family woman, whose love knew no bounds. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. Her home was her sanctuary, where she found happiness in the small things like cooking, reading and watching her favorite TV Game Shows. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her home was always a place of warmth, laughter and love.

On a Sunday afternoon, the children returned home and talked to their mother and she decided to give her life to Christ. Joyce will be remembered as giving, kind-hearted and a virtuous woman that shared her love with her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Joyce  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  parents,  Wilbert  and  Etta  Hughes,  four  brothers,  John,  Wilbert Jr., Howard and David Hughes, her daughter in law, Melvina Munson and her BFF Barbara Hughes.

Joyce leaves  to cherish her memory  and remember her life: her devoted sons, Roy, Jr. and Troy, daughter, Joyetta; five grandchildren: Roy  III, Tyleen (Shamar Workman), Michael, Tytiana and Aubrey; one sister, Judy Ann Hughes; nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends.
