Juanita F. Barry was born to the late Everlena and Roy Carr on December 24, 1934 in Florence, South Carolina. Born as Juanita Carr, she was the oldest of their two children. She and her brother, the late Rev. Harold Carr, Sr., attended public schools there until moving with their mother to Baltimore, Maryland when she was 10 years old. She continued her education in Baltimore and graduated from Carver High School in 1952, where she majored in Sewing. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Coppin State Collegein 1974.
Juanita became a remarkable seamstress and was employed at London Fog for many years. She loved making tailored suits, coats and other beautiful attire for her herself and her family. After graduation from Coppin, she began her teaching career with Baltimore City Public Schools where she taught 2nd through 4th grade for 23 years. She retired in 1996. Her love for young people and their success was unwavering and it was displayed in every aspect of her life.
Soon after arriving to Baltimore, Juanita and her family joined Christian Memorial Church under the pastoral leadership of it's Founder, the late Rev. Frank Brown. Sis. Barry was a faithful member and served as Sunday School Teacher, Young People's Choir Director and in any other capacity needed. Her dedication to her church and love for God was displayed throughout her life.
in 1950, Juanita married the late James Fleming and from that union, her only child, the late Wendell Jerome was born. in 1964 she married Harry F. Barry, who preceded her in death. Juanita loved her family dearly and shared a unique bond with everyone. She was affectionately called "Mother" by her Grands and "Aunt Neat" by her nieces and nephews.
Juanita leaves to cherish her memory; her grand-daughters, Rhonda Cylburn (Diosa Sr.) and Marki Fleming; 6 great-grandchildren, Amber, Diosa II, Demetrik, Marissa, Marki, and Marki; sister-in-law, Celia V. Carr; 2 nieces, Sheila Carr-Spence (Willie), Arkaime Kess - Goddaughter (Russell); nephew, Harold Carr Jr. - Godson (Joann); 4 great-nieces, Erica T. Davis-O'Bryant (Kevin), Samantha Davis, Tracie Carr and Kristen Gilmore (Anthony Sr.); 2 great-nephews, Jason Kiss and Harold Carr III; great-great niece, Ryann Gilmore; great-great nephew Victor Veney; daughter-in-law, Bernadette Hill and a host of family and friends.
