Obituary

JUANITA WILLIAMS was born on September 25, 1939, in Baltimore City, Maryland, to Aline Yates (Kertley) and Leon Williams. She was the second eldest of Aline's six children. Both of her parents preceded her in death. Affectionately known as Mama, Nita, or GG, she had a remarkable ability to build and nurture deep, lasting relationships. Nita attended Baltimore City Public Schools and began her career early as a cafeteria worker and domestic housekeeper. She later joined Maryland Casualty as a grill cook dedicating over 25 years of service before retiring. At Maryland Casualty, Nita became a favorite among many for her delicious breakfast sandwiches and lunch meals, always keeping the food line moving quickly. Nita's greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends and often enjoying lively social gatherings and events. Her homemade meals were famous, her card games always well attended, and her holiday gatherings such as the "famous Easter Egg Hunt" were the foundation of countless cherished family memories. Nita's Lexington Terrace home was always open, serving as a welcoming gathering place for family and friends, and she was known for meticulously hemming everyone's slacks in the neighborhood. She never missed an opportunity to enjoy the city's Druid Hill Park, City Fair, or Artscape, where she loved seeing her favorite singer, Smokey Robinson. Whether visiting the Inner Harbor or exploring the city's many events, GG always made sure her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids, or friends were by her side.

Family was a core value for Nita, and it was evident in the love, sacrifice, and care she gave while raising her grandson, Dominique. Her deep love for family was clear in every gesture, whether having her nephew Sammy or niece Van stay overnight after a family gathering or simply spending time together. Family and friends alike knew they always had a place to rest at Nita's. Regardless of where her siblings, nieces, nephews, or cousins were, Nita always made it a point to connect with them in person or by hearing their voices— because, above all, family was everything. Nita was a proud member of the Flower Circle, where she enjoyed creating window treatments and decorations such as her Christmas window display and decor. Nita was a devoted member of The New Metropolitan Baptist Church, faithfully serving on the Food Ministry and Usher Board for many years. She regularly participated in services and events finding great joy in connecting with her church family. Juanita Williams, 85, peacefully transitioned away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind a legacy of care and compassion, having touched the lives of countless friends and family. Remaining to cherish Nita's memory are: children, Juanita, Karen, Kevin (and wife Harriet), and Troy; siblings, Nabil, Lenore, Sami, and Matin; grandchildren, Shawnett, Kanisha, Sherrie, Kevin, Jerrod, Earl, Travis, and Kareem; great-grandchildren, Tyrone, Kelvin, Donald, Skye, Monet, Autumn, Justin, Brianna, Kevin, Darrell, Kelis, Dajuan, Danaysia, Jamal, Milan, Corey, Harley, Chayce, Khori, Harmony, Naqunte, Riley; 8 great-great-grandchildren; Bonus son, Charles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and granddaughter-in-law, Brittany.
