June Ellerbe,
was born on June 28, 1925 to the late General
Calhoun Ellerbe and the late Victoria Jackson Ellerbe in
Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He departed this life on
March 16, 2017 at the Summit Park Rehab. Center, after a
lengthy illness.
He was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of
the Galilee Baptist Church in McBee, South Carolina until he
moved his family to Baltimore, Maryland in 1963.
He met and married Nellie Mae Shannon in 1945. Out of this
union 17 children were born. The late Nellie Mae Ellerbe was
the love of his life.
He was educated in the South Carolina Public School System.
He worked at the White Coffee Pot and retired in 1974. He
loved fishing, that was his hobby. He also loved his dogs. June
was a very good cook, and loved preparing dinner for his
family and he loved to eat. He loved baking his favorite
coconut and pineapple cakes.
June was a very loving man. He loved his children and all his
children loved him. His daughter Elsie took very good care of
him. She was his caregiver and done it very well.
He leaves to cherish his memories: 8 daughters, Dorothy
Waters, Rose Moore (Joe), Elsie Benjamin, Evelyn Clark,
Gearldine Downing, Patricia Robinson, Shirley Johnson (Bill)
and Louise Terry (Leon); 5 sons, Franklin Davis, John Ellerbe,
James Ellerbe, Michael Ellerbe and Ricky Ellerbe; 27 grand-
children (6 preceded him in death), 49 great grandchildren, 14
great great grandchildren(4 preceded him in death); 2 stepchil-
dren, Michael and Kelly Sampson; a very special friend, Lois
Pate and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
