Obituary

Katherine "Kathy" Newton-Jackson, retired educator, departed this life peacefully on March 18, 2021 at Serenity Home in Glen Burnie, MD, surrounded by family and friends. She was born September 17, 1932 to the late William Harry and Florence Newton. She was baptized at an early age at St Pius V Roman Catholic Church, and she received her early education at St. Pius V Catholic School, graduating from Frederick Douglas High School in 1950. After high school, Kathy attended Marywood University, Scranton, PA, but took a break to raise her children.



Katherine Newton was married to the late William L. Jackson. From this union two children were born, Denise Jackson Lee and LeMonte A. Jackson. Katherine continued her education and graduated from Coppin State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree - Special Education. She was a mother of her two children as well as many students at various schools within the city of Baltimore.



Katherine enjoyed tutoring challenged students to help them attain meaningful education goals for more than 25 years. She continued to promote education and tutor young minds after retirement in Las Vegas, NV school system. Katherine loved to travel; she was an active member of the National Black Carcus of Special Educators where they traveled all over the world. A major achievement was her trip to Rome, Italy, Trips to her new house in Las Vegas, NV, New York, Disney World and Atlantic City just to name a few. Katherine cherished her time with her family and friends. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents Florence and William Harry Newton, by her siblings, Laurence, Michael, William, and Harry Newton. Katherine leaves her loving memories to her daughter, Denise Jackson Lee, son LeMonte A. Jackson, a loving and devoted sister, Lorraine Caldwell, a special cousin, Margaret Booker, two granddaughters, Kionne Woodley, Ashleigh Craig, one great grandson Keon Sellers, one great, great grandson Kaiden Sellers.
