KATHERINE PATRICIA SMITH NETTLES was born on April 12, 1933 to the late Edna White Smith Brown and the late Andrew Smith. She passed away on October 25, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at Mercy Hospital after a battle with many serious medical conditions. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School and married Irvin Wesley Williams in 1950. Out of that marriage they had three sons, Wayne Stephen Williams, Donald Keith Williams and Irvin Jeffrey Williams. She started working at age twenty-six at Spring Grove State Hospital where she enrolled in mental health and drug rehabilitation classes. She was an excellent employee and received many different awards. As a mother she was tremendous in that she was strong when it was needed and loving in many ways. She loved to cook and dance; mention travel, and she was ready for a good cruise. Katherine loved to come to the Butier's cookout. She was preceded in death by her son, Irvin Jeffrey Williams; and sisters, Winona Dixon and Thaddous Smith. She leaves to mourn: two sons, Wayne Stephen Williams and Donald Keith Williams; daughter-in-law, Catherine E. Williams; six grandchildren, Steven V. Williams, Aaron Williams, Davar Williams, Tamika Williams, Tiffany Williams and Jerel Williams, and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Ware and Mary Stanley; and a host of other relatives and friends.
