Kathleen Barksdale Nichols, the daughter of the late Edward F. Barksdale and Aline Jackson, departed this life on Saturday October 13th 2012. after a lengthy illness. Kat as she was fondly known went home to be with the Lord. Kat was the third of eight children of the late Edward and Aline. She received her formal education at Frederick Douglas High School in Baltimore, Md. After high school Kat had a great desire to help the sick. She received her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification and Certification for Phlebotomy. She worked in several nursing homes and hospitals throughout her life. Kat also did private duty nursing assistant for special patients. It was he desire to always assist to those who were ailing and in need. Kat nurtured her siblings, and always protected and looked after them. she was an encourager to all of her brothers and sisters. In 1987 Kathy wed to Clarence Nichols. In 1988 Kathy and the Clarence were blessed with a handsome baby boy Dawarren. He was the joy of their lives. Kat and Clarence spent time enjoying their son. After falling ill, Clarence passed to "New Life." Early in her adult life Kat became a member of St. Matthews Holiness temple and later joined Ebenezer A.M.E. Church. She enjoyed serving God's people. While a member at Ebenezer, Kat joined the Usher Board, to be a door keeper in the Lord's House. The parishioners enjoyed her smile and her humor. Kathy leaves to cherish her memory her son, Dawarren Nichols, Sr., one grandson Dawarren Nichols, Jr., five brothers, Henry Gibson, Eddie Ray Barksdale, Jerry Barksdale, Ricky Barksdale, Kevin Gibson, two sisters who predeceased her, Alberta Gibson and Corretta Barksdale, three aunts Jenevyne Wilson, May Helen Marriman of South Carolina and Bessie Anderson, thirteen nieces and nephews. One Godson, Christopher Webster and a very devoted best friend Star Winstead.
