Obituary

KATHLEEN BRATTON TEASLEY, daughter of the late Alexander and Catherine Moore Bratton, was born on February 16, 1924 in Chester, South Carolina. She departed this life on December 31, 2009. She recieved her education in Chester Public School System of South Carolina. When she was a child, her family moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina. Later as a young adult. she moved to New Rochelle, New York seeking employment opportunities that were not available in the Jim Crow South. While there she did domestic work where she developed the culinary skills of the Jewish dietic law and their culture. Also, while in New Rochelle she met and married William Teasley. Some years later they divorced. He preceded her in death. After a number of years, she journeyed to Brooklyn, New York and worked in the housekeeping department of the historic Empire State Building for approximately 10 years. During thise times, it was not unusual for "Aunt Kat" to open her home to family and friends when they came to New York looking for work or visiting. She decided to take an early retirement and in the 1980's, she settled in Baltimore, Maryland. Three brothers and one sister also preceded her in death. Her memories will be cherised by one sister-in-law, Marisha Bratton of New York, New York; eight nephews: devoted Clarence Howell, Randy Howell-Bey, James Richard Bratton, Joel Bratton-Bey, all of Baltimore Maryland, Louis Howell of Oxon Hill, Maryland, John Willie Bratton of Las Vegas, Nevada, Bryant Bratton and Edward Dean Bratton of New York, New York; three nieces: Delores Phillips and Banastine Howell of Brooklyn, New York, Patricia Little of Augusta, Georgia, Five great nephews; four great nieces; one great-great nephew; three great-great nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
