Katie Lee Berry(nee Norman), daughter of the late Thomas and Betty Lou Norman, was
born May 19,1923 in Enfield, North Carolina. She departed this life on January 29, 2016
after a brief illness. Katie was preceded in death by her loving siblings, Henry Norman, Mary
Norman, Ellen Kennedy, Betty Myrick, Sarah Myrick and William Norman.
Katie moved to Baltimore, Maryland at an early age. Educated in the Baltimore City
Public School System, Katie received her High School Diploma from, what was then called,
"Colored Vocational School", later to be named Carver Vocational Technical High School.
Her trade was Culinary Arts. She also received a certificate in 1941 as a Pro
Marksman/Sharpshooter.
In 1941, Katie married the love of her life, William Henry Berry. Katie and William
shared this remarkable union for Sixty-Eight years, until his death in 2010. Out of that loving
union came eight children, Phillip, Leonard (who preceded her in death), William Stanley,
Roslyn, Linda, Pamela, Karen and Dale. Katie was a very loving mother and thought the
world of each of her children, nurturing and teaching them even in their adulthood.
After raising her children, Katie worked for the Baltimore City Public School System as
a cook in Food Services from where she retired in 1986. She received several Certificates
and Commendations for Outstanding service to the City of Baltimore.
Katie loved to cook and have family over for Sunday dinner. She never denied anyone a
meal, and through the years, she has filled many stomachs. She will definitely be
remembered for her famous, delicious Rice Pudding.
Katie adored her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and always looked forward to
spending time with them.
She loved domestic and international travel.
Katie possessed a Beautiful spirit and shared her love and kindness with everyone. Katie
loved her family and friends. She lived a life full of love and laughter and some of her last
words were, "I love everyone and please take care of each other."
Katie leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Phillip L. Berry and William S. Berry; five
daughters, Roslyn Logan, Linda Cook, Pamela Berry, Karen Watkins, and Dale Berry; one
loving daughter-in-law, Constance Berry; fourteen grandchildren, Donnell Berry (wife
Marcia), Sharon Berry, Phillip Berry Jr., DeVonne Hannah(Husband Nathaniel), Danielle
Lynn(Husband Timothy), Linda Budd, David Berry(Wife Sandra ), Kim Rogers, Denime
McCain (Husband Mark), Donald Logan, Samuel Cook 3rd (Wife Yaruba), Khetim Berry,
Clarence T. Briscoe 3'd (Wife Linnea), and Joi C. Briscoe; seventeen great grandchildren;
eight great-great grandchildren; two loving sisters-in-law, Martha Norris and Evangelist
Arlene Matthews and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends including her
friends at the Ednor One at Stadium Place Senior Apartments and a lifetime friend, Helen S.
Yuille.
