IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kimiko
Shell
August 16, 1934 – September 8, 2016
We are here today to celebrate the life of Kimiko Shell. Kimiko was born on August 16, 1934 in Kawasaki City, Japan to the late Tomagiro Kanako and Mina Kanako. She was the youngest of two brothers - Y oseo Kanako and Cegao Kanako and one sister Shuziko Thukahara, that preceded her in death.
Kimiko received her education through the school systems in Japan.
Kimiko met her husband Larry Shell in 1954, while serving in the military in Funaoko, Japan. They dated for two years and were married in February 1956 at the American Embassy. Kimiko and Larry traveled to their new home in the United States with their first born daughter, Judy. They settled in Baltimore and raised a family of six girls. In February 2016, they celebrated sixty years of marriage.
Kimiko was a very talented woman who enjoyed drawing, crocheting, sewing, knitting, and embroidery. Her favorite past time included going to the casino, reading Japanese books, and bowling in a league with her husband Larry. She turned her hobbies into business ventures.
Kimiko's love for children and helping others led her to employment with the Baltimore City Public School System where she worked for fifteen years. She was loved by all that met her and was known to many of the children as "Mom." If they didn't have lunch money or were hungry, "Mom" saw to it that no one went hungry.
Kimiko departed this life on Thursday, September 8, 2016. Kimiko is survived by: her husband, Larry E. Shell; six daughters - Judy Berry, Doris Glenn, Kimi Thomas-Carey, Brenda Shell, Inez Spence and Stephanie Workman; five sons-in-law - Terrance Glenn, Darryl Spence Sr., Coakley Workman, the late Clarence Thomas and the late Eddie Carey; eight grandchildren - Koyoto Berry, Fugiki Berry, Toshiko Riggins, Kanaeko Ravenell, Kimia Workman, Wahseeola Spence, Darryl Spence, Jr. , and Kioko Thomas; thirteen great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends in the United States and Japan.
