Obituary

King Edward Redfern, son of the late Joseph and Isin Redfern, was born August 4, 1939 in Marshville, North Carolina. He was reared in Christian home and received his early education in the public schools of North Carolina. He was employed as a truck driver for many years. Later, King became interested in real estate and endured as a successful entrepreneur. King was initiated in the Bethel Lodge #47. His Grand Lodge was Hiram Grand A.F. and A.M. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He wasalso a member of the Shriners. King was friendly and helpful to everyone he met. He had an infectious smile and enjoyed good times and celebrations with family and friends. His simple enjoyment was watching golf and westerns on television. King met and married Catherine Rollin and from this union four children were born, Diane, Larry, Darnell and Pretty. Later in life, King and David Mae Jackson met and married in June 1980. From their union, one son, Kenneth was born. His stepdaughter, Joyce Strickland, preceded him in death. On January 20, 2009, King peacefully departed this life. We will miss his humorand his beautiful smile. He leaves to cherish fond memories: his wife David Mae Redfern; children Diane, Larry, Darnell, Pretty, Kenneth, Patricia, Dimetris and King, Jr; who preceded him in death; siblings Billy Dyke, Joyce Lee Davis, Jimmey Bailey, Cheryl Jackson and Wilane all of Charlotte, North Carolina, Catherine Cromwell of Monroe, North Carolina, and James Redfern of Buffalo, New York; three daughters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; one godson, Jamaal Turner, who attended to him during his illness; one goddaughter, Lata Fleming; and a true friend, Joanne Harding-Stanton, RN, to whom he reside and who faithfully cared for him during his extended illness; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
