Lanza Tursko Hawkins was born on January 23,1958 in Winston Salem,
North Carolina to the late Robert Glen and Lee Ella Hawkins. On
March 3, 2016 Lanza stepped into eternal glory after a brief illness.
Lanza received his education in the Forsyth County (Winston Salem, NC)
School System. Lanza enlisted in the United States Marine Corps
in 1976 where he served his country for 4 years and in 1980 he received
an Honorable discharge.
Lanza moved to Baltimore where he began the next chapter of his
life. Before his illness Lanza was employed with Butler Security Inc. as
an armed security guard. Lanza had gifted hands, he obtained his
Barbers license and became a Master Barber; he also worked as a
personal contractor for the Arrow Cab Company for 6 years. Lanza
had a host other skills and talents.
Lanza met the love of his life, his longtime companion, Joyce A.
Sparrow to this union were born Saraii and Tony.
Lanza was ordained as a Deacon in 2005 under the leadership of
Bishop Anthony Fliggins Jr. Lanny as we affectionately called him had
a witty personality, he was funny, unbending and a conversationalist.
Lanny would often travel back home to North Carolina spending time
with his family. Lanny lovedfishing, cooking outdoors; steaming crabs,
watching old western movies and attending various sporting games
with his son.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory; his mother, Elizabeth Hawkins;
3 brothers, Marion Hawkins Sr., Robert Hawkins and Rayvon
Hawkins Sr.; 1 sister, Donna Walker (Angelo); 2 daughters, Shantel
Kimbrough (Andre) Saraii Hawkins; 1 son, Tony Hawkins; his longtime
companion, Joyce A. Sparrow; 1 grandson, Damion Kimbrough;
1 aunt, Zatie Coker; 1 uncle, Norman Hawkins of Jacksonville Florida;
