Laraine Cornelia coast, daughter of the late Harrison and Delores c. Hall, ws born in Batimore, Maryland on May 27, 1949. After a lengthy illness, she was called to be with the Lord on April 27, 2009. Laraine was the second child born of eight children in a loving family atmosphere. Family and friends were always welcome. Laraine grew up in Flag House Court Projects, where she developed life-long friendships. As a youth, Laraine loved dancing with her friends. Laraine received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1967. Laraine truly loved the Lord. She accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Baltimore, Md. Laraine later joined Bethel A.M.E. Church, until she found her church home at New Psalmist Baptist Church, under the leadership of Bishop Walter S. Thomas, Sr. She was a dedicated member, who truly loved and respected her Pastor. When she was able, she loved to attend his Thursday night Bible Study class. On May 9, 1970, Laraine married the love of her life, Vernon L. coats, Jr., affectionately known as her "Poopy Pie". their dedication to each other is a testament of the great love they shared. They had two sons, Vernon, Jr. and Christopher. Laraine loved being a wife and mother. She also considered her nephew Derrick Grady, as another son. As long as she was doing something with her family, whether it was traveling, barbequing, partying or just being at home, that's what was most important. More importantly was the love for her four grandchildren. they were her sumshine. Vernon and Laraine started their own travel agency called "Coates Travel and Tours." Crusing was one of their passions. Laraine started her work career at Enoch Pratt Free Library. she lat was employed by the Housing Authority of Baltimore City. After 28 years of dedication service, Laraine retired from the Housing Authority, where she made numerous life-long friends. Laraine to cook, eat and entertain! Hospitality was her middle name. Laraine was an encouraging person whose positive attitude radiated throughout all those she touched. She had a warm and welcoming spirit. Her door ws always open to anyone in need. She leaves to celebrate her life; her husbasnd of 38 years, Vernon L. Coates, Jr.; two sons, Vernon L. Coates III and Christopher S. Coates; four sisters, Christine Simpson, Vera, Joan and Karen Hall; a surrogate sister, Sherniece Smith; three brothers, Harrison deceased, Joseph and Phillip Hall; four grandchildren, Christaline, Alexis, Mya and Dominic Coates; father-in-law, Vernon L Coates, Sr.; two daughters-in-law, Quinta and Jacqueline Coates; one brother-in-law, Ralph Simpson; three sisters-n-law, Betty May, Janeen Anderson and Theresa Hall; in addition;, Alfred Whittington and Scott Blango, whom she considered her brothers-in-law. She also leaves to celebrate her memory three devoted long-time friends Beverly Salaam, Lynn Webster, Deaconess Carolyn Croxton and a host of other relatives and friends.
