Larry Bernard Parks, was born on August 21, 1949, to Doris Lee (Boardley) and Clarence Parks in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his education in the Baltimore City Public Schools. For a time during the early years, Larry and his sister, Elissha lived in New York with relatives. Always a "rough and ready" child, Larry was affectionately nicknamed, "Mac, like the Truck" by his father, aunts, and uncles. Whenever you saw him, he was always running someplace, falling down with scraped knees, and/or getting into mischief. We, knew that underneath his tough exterior was a quiet interior. He had trouble showing affection, but he was fiercely loyal to those he cared for. He'd fight your battles as if they were his own, in the school yard, the streets, wherever, it didn't matter. Though he never took boxing lessons, he definitely could fight. Larry loved to play chess, and was an excellent player. Also, he was an avid reader. The one job that he worked hard at and was so proud of was that of a prison librarian. He was sick for the past one and one half years. When I last spoke with him, he talked about his dreams. These were always of his childhood, with me, our cousins, childhood friends, and of course we were running around through our grandmother's big house. His dreams were always about family. Larry leaves to mourn: two sons, Antonio, and Deontay; one daughter, Katrina; sisters, Elissha (Jefferson), and Cheryl (McNeil); two brothers-in-laws, four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces/ great nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
