LAURA SC0tT, daughter of the late Samuel and Mattie Cheatham, was born August 23, 1927 Ridge Spring, South Carolina. She suddenly departed this life on December 27, 2013. Laura came to Baltimore as a teenager receiving her education at the Seventh Day Adventist Academy and attending the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She worked at numerous places even acquiring a job in New York. Laura later married the late Clarence Scott Jr. and from that union seven children were born, Clarence Lee, Acquanetta, Cynthia, Ronald, David, Linda and Sandra (Clarence Lee, Acquanetta, David and grandson Michael preceded her in death). Laura knew and loved the Lord; she was a devoted member of Simmons Memorial Baptist Church. Laura was a member of the Gospel Chorus 2, Early Morning Choir, Mass Choir and the treasurer of the Building Ministry. Laura was an active member of the Druid Heights Community, organizing and participating in fund raisers to obtain back to school supplies for the children of the neighborhood. She received a citation from the City Council of Baltimore in recognition of generosity and inspiration to the children of her community. She also received a Congressional Achievement Award. Laura loved fashion, especially her hats. She would step with style and grace like a true fashionista. She loved baking cakes and pies from scratch for family and friends, and everyone would rave about them. She loved dancing and keeping active, and she was always finding things to do to keep busy. Laura loved going to gospel concerts, especially the ones where her sister Elizabeth would be singing. Laura was a caring person who would always extend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. She was loved and well respected by her neighbors as she was the eldest in the block. She leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Cynthia, Ronald Linda and Sandra; thirteen grandchildren, Yolonda, Damon, Lynette, Shamai, Lamar, Corey, Tunisia, Nicole, Marc, Shannon, Lauren, Krystal and Antonio; seventeen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia, Rosalee and Elizabeth; three devoted friends, Virginia Rollins, Ruby Ward and Donald Peterson; and of host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
