Obituary

Lavern Elaine Lowery, daughter of the late Robert Lee Montgomery, Sr. and Hattie Mae Montgomery, was born on December 18, 1950 in Lancaster, South Carolina. With her loving husband by her bedside, Lavern peacefully departed this earthly life on February 3, 2014 at the Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, Maryland. Lavern was a graduate of Northwestern High School. Being the gifted and talented student she was, had the privilege of participating in various work study programs. One exciting opportunity was working at a local television station in her senior year. Although many years had passed, Lavern never gave up the dream of obtaining a college degree. On December 12, 2009, she and her sister friend, Ruth flew to Clinton, Iowa to attend her commencement ceremony, where she became a proud recipient of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Ashford University. Lavern was employed for many years at Westinghouse in Hunt Valley, Maryland. She later became employed for John Hopkins Hospital Children's Center on Charles Street, where she remained employed until health issues forced her to retire. Lavern married the late Purnell Hall and from that union one son was born, Brian David Hall (preceded her in death, August 2013). Years later, Lavern married her childhood sweetheart, Ronald "Ronnie" and together they raised two sons, Keith and Stephen. Lavern had a heart of gold and didn't mind sharing whatever she had with the people she loved. She was afree spirit, who loved to laugh and have fun. Family was the center of her universe and enjoyed spending majority of her time with them. One of her most memorable family vacation was to Disney World. Lavern and Ronnie en- joyed traveling with their best friends, Ruth and John. Lavern had a unique personal- ity and was a pleasure to be around. During her leisure time, Lavern was an avid reader and a collector of numerous books. Lavern was strong willed, which was evi- dent all during her illness, she would always manage to smile and have something funny to say. Left to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband, Ronald; two sons, Keith and Stephen; grandsons, Keith and Devin; two brothers, Robert Montgomery Jr. and Kebin Montgomery (Linda); stepdaughters, Tiffany and Nicole (Nick); moth- er-in-law, Mary L. Jackson; aunts, Mary Jordan, Reola McGriff and Shirley Jack- son; sister-in-law, Deborah "Debbie" L. Holt (Gary Sr.) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Very special friends, Ruth Walker and John Jackson. Viewing Joseph H. Brown Jr. Funeral Home Wednesday, February 12, 2014 04:00 PM - 08:00 PM Email Details 2140 N. Fulton Ave.
