IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence L.
Smith
March 16, 1956 – January 29, 2017
On Sunday, January 29, 2017, Lawrence L. Smith departed this life to be with the LORD.
LAWRENCE,
the oldest child of Beatrice Jolly and the late John Smith, was born on March
16, 1956, on the island of North Caicos in the Caribbean. He attended and graduated from the
Adelaide School, Umber Primary School and the Nassau Culinary Institute in Nassau, Bahamas.
Lawrence found his passion in creating and cooking delicious island cuisine. He enjoyed bringing
smiles to the faces of family and friends as they enjoyed those meals. Lawrence enjoyed traveling
and especially going to visit his mother, Las Vegas and his children.
Lawrence had a love for the music of the Caribbean, however, country music he loved more. He
enjoyed all the greats - Loretta Lynn, Charlie Pride, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks,
to name a few.
Lawrence met a special lady who was visiting the Bahamas, and he moved to the United States in
1990. On April 17, 1993 Lawrence was joined in matrimony to Joanne, whom he affectionately
called Pie, in Baltimore, Maryland. Lawrence found employment immediately at the Sunset
Restaurant in Glen Burnie using his special recipe for chicken wings that kept the patrons coming
back for more. At the time of his death he was employed with the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore.
Under the encouragement of his late father-in-law Henry Talley, Lawrence joined the Spirit of
Chesapeake Lodge #1107. He enjoyed learning all he could about this order. He held the office
of Exalted Ruler for a number of years.
Most of all, Lawrence loved the Lord. He was never able to attend church services regularly due
to his work schedule, however, he and Joanne joined in prayer and reading scriptures. He also
put up with her singing that he lovingly called "bellowing".
Lawrence leaves to mourn: his loving wife of twenty-three years, Joanne Talley Smith; his mother,
Beatrice Jolly; loving daughters, Sophia Dames and Tezel Saunders; four sons, Manarldo, Vaughn,
Sigmund and Lorenzo Smith; grandchildren, [errnaine, Jeremy, Sharoya, Leroy, Ryland, Teangelo,
[erricka, [ernell, Solomon, Jeremiah, and Jerry Manarldo [r., Makhari, Messiah, Gabrielle, Victoria,
Christina, Kendall, Kamea, Patton and Mason; four great-grandchildren, Anthonae, Nella, Jniah
and Kaiden; three sisters, Bloney, LaDonna, and Sabrina; five brothers, Barry, Tom, Telvin,
Desmond and Keith; one special sister-in law, Janice Ford; one special nephew, Jared Ford; two
aunts, Louise Kimball and Kay Jolly of the Bahamas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
