IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leon
Dulyx
November 1, 1982 – October 16, 2019
It is our deepest sorrow, Leon Desmond Dulyx (Joey/Breeze), 36, our beloved son,
father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend passed away in a car accident
unexpectedly on October 17, 2019 in Baltimore, Maryland. He will always have a
special place in each of our hearts. .
Joey was born on November 1, 1982 at Metropolitan Hospital in New York. He is
survived by his mother Genevieve (Jheny) and Step Father David, he was the second
eldest son. His siblings Sean, Zakiyah, Jason, Chanel, and Tiffany. He also leaves
behind his other mother/Aunt Joy (Tati), his only child Chloe Ariel Dulyx (11), her
sister Chrissy who loved him as her best friend, their mother Candice, grandmother
Faith and his dog Cassidy ..
Joey and Candice had a collaborative and caring relationship. It was based on
mutual support and a deep love for each other. His greatest achievement to date is
his daughter Chloe. The legacy of Joey's caring spirit, passion for cars, love of the
sport, and zest for life will live on through them.
Joey was raised with his siblings in Mount Vernon, New York. He attended Columbus
Elementary and later graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. While in Mt. Vernon he
obtained long lasting friendships. They reminisce about his ever-present smile, kind
heart, and gentle spirit who loved spending time with family and friends.
Most of all, they recall the sheer pleasure of his company, how good he made them
feel and how free they were to be themselves around him.
Joey cared about people in the purest way. He loved them for who they were and
because he wished the best for them, without guile or asking anything in return. He
had so much goodness, the capacity to bring happiness to others and such a bright
future. The world is a lesser place without his presence.
He spent many summers with his Aunt (Tati) in Baltimore. Their bond was
unbreakable and soon after high school he moved his permanent residence with her.
She cared more for him than a nephew, she raised him like her own son. Most
importantly, Tati showed Joey how to have a deep love and respect for his family.
That having good relationships with love ones IS key to living a joyful life. He
cherished the time they would spend together playing practical jokes, laughing
together, and enjoying family dinners together. Holidays were the best times
because it brought so much joy and great memories as a family. Joey always had a
smile on his face and jokes on his lips. We will cherish these moments for a lifetime.
Joey loved so many, was loved by so many more and had such an energy, that even
just one encounter with him would usually never be forgotten. If you knew him well
or barely at all, he always left you thinking. He was just that memorable. He was a rare
combination of someone who had a love of life ana a firm understanding of what was
important - the simplicity of living a life with those you love. Joey's indomitable spirit
encouraged his family and friends to persist in the face of many struggles.
During his life in Baltimore he obtained multiple jobs that always involved cars. He
had a passion to fix and drive cars from an early age. His love for cars drew him to be
a part of the Notorious Car Club. Joey loved the performance, style, handling,
horsepower, and speed. Joey definitely wrote his own rules and paved his own way.
Joey gave his life to Christ at Bethel AME Church in 2008. A child of the Most High.
Joey was a person of faith and lived life serving others in his own way. He taught us
that despite our circumstances; we can rise above
all adversity and pursue our dreams.
The angels came for you much sooner than
planned. The family will brave the bitter grief that
comes and we will try our best to understand. In
God we Trust. We will never lose hope in God's Will
for our lives.
