Obituary

LEON NELSON, son of the late John Leon and Rebecca Nelson, was born on April 30, 1927. He departed this life on April 4, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Though he was born in Sumter, South Carolina, he was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, where he last attended the Samuel Taylor School; prior to answering the call to help his mother support their household. He accepted Christ at an early age and confirmed his belief in the Lord shortly before his death. A short while later, he served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Later in life, he worked as a special police officer for twenty-one years at the Department of Health and Human Services in Baltimore; before retiring in June of 1992. During his employment at DHHS, he received numerous awards, recognizing his commitment and dedication to the State of Maryland. He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Abdul Majiid (Stephen Nelson) of Baltimore, Maryland; two daughters, Marcia Hull and Ashidda Khalil (Janice Nelson) both of Baltimore, Maryland; two dedicated friends, Ms. Judy Grabau and Mr. Johnathan "Butch" Jones both of whom served him throughout his entire illness; one longtime friend, Ms. Jean Jackson; twelve grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and a host of friends, other family and associates. His memory and wisdom imparted will forever live on in his dedicated grandson, Kaon Nelson. Memorial Service Joseph H. Brown Jr. Funeral Home Saturday, April 13, 2013 Email Details 2140 N. Fulton Ave
