Obituary

Levi Dozier peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 12, 2006 at his home after an extended illness. He was born September 30, 1931, in Lee County Bishopville, South Carolina to the late Robert and Lillie Dozier. Levi Dozier receiv3ed his early education in the Florence County public school system. He moved to Baltimore in his early teens and graduated for Dunbar Senior High School. Levi always had a strong work ethic. He worked at WEANT printing company. He also drove for the Diamond Taxi Cab Company. He realized that he needed to estabish a more beneficial career to support his family and became employee of the United States Postal Service. While employed at the Postal Service, he was a founding member and elected as the first Vice President of the Postal Alliance. While in office, he helped to advance the rights of African-Americans and other ethnic groups. This organization also participated in the March on Washington. He retired after 35 years of service with the Postal Service. Levi enjoyed the Colts, Orioles and Bullets. He was traditional whichg is now viewed as old school by members of the younger generation. He always enjoyed a lively debate on various subjects. He always believed that he was right. He was truthful, direct and loyal. In 1953, he met his future wife Joyce Beatrice Chase Harris and was marriedafter three year courtship. Levi and Joyce celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on April 22, 2006. Levi leaves to cherish his memory; hsi wife Joyce; five children, Margaret, Edward, Levi, Michael and Joyce. He also leaves two sons-in-laws, Kenneth and Larry, tow daughters-in-laws, Rita and Melba; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Erika, Keli, Ebony, Devin, Durrell and Jaaaelyn; three great grandchildren, Anthony Jr.,Myra and Shedai; two surviving sisters, Mary Lou and Isabelle, both of South Carolina; two uncles, Arthur and Dave; six sisters-in-laws, Betty, Barbara,Linda, Brenda, Jackie and Mary; five brothers-in-laws, Samuel, John,Benjamin, Gilbert, Frank and Mingo, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends and a special neighbors, the Hendrixes, the Rileys and the Wilsons.
