Obituary

Lewis Edward Nichols Jr., beloved son of the late Mildred and Lewis Sr., was born on July 21, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on Thursday, May 24, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Lewis received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System and after graduation he acquired a job at Bethlehem Steel. A special time in Lewis's life was when he fell in love and married Mildred Carroll. Three children were born out of this union, Edward Lewis Nichols, Donna Lynn Waters and Gregory Hayward Nichols. Some years later Lewis met the late he met Sandra Cooper and she became his long time companion and out of this relationship Jevette Jerri cooper was born. Lewis was also known to his family and friends as "Old Dude" or "Pop Pop". Lewis was also known for his suave demeanor, if not working he was known to be seen in suits and ties or slacks and sports jacket. More than anything he was known for his sense of humor, leave an opening and you would be the center of one of his jokes. That was one of the reason his neighbors enjoyed his company so much and was always willing to extend their hands to help with whatever he needed. God truly blessed those of us who knew and loved him, because he was truly a pleasure to be around even if it was only for a brief period of time. We can only imagine what it was lie to grow up around such an individual. "Old Dude" enjoyed watching sports and going to his gentlemen's club to play cards, but I think his best entertainment was when he was watching a good western on TV, which seemed to have rubbed off on Puddie! Lewis would not want any of us to be sad today, sadness was not his spirit. What he would like us to do today is to join him in celebration of his passing from this phase of life to an eternal life, not just because God has come for him, but eternal because he will forever be in our hearts and minds. He leaves to cherish his memory; his three children, Donna Lynn Waters, Edward Puddie Nichols, and Gregory Nichols. Ten grandchildren; Angela Daniels, Edson Nichols, Qwanza Water, Quintess Waters, Quintina Waters, Quincy Waters, Shenear Nichols, Haywood Nichols, Craig Nichols, Raven, Lakeyis, Ashley, Karim, Sharon, Andrea, Joseph. 30 Great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, one daughter-n-law; Angela Nichols, son-in-law; Quincy Waters, buddies, very special neighbors, friends and family.
