Obituary

Lewis Lamont Rideout-Bey was born in Salisbury, Maryland on May 24, 1946, to the late Doris M. Dashiell Price and Lewis Rideout.

Lewis had a loving childhood and was raised by his favorite grandmother, the late Nona Dennis-Rideout. Whatever he wanted, Grandma made sure he got it. He often teased his cousins about what Grandma gave him. During this time, is when they started teasing him about hanging on "Grandma's skirt-tai/ ". They joked and teased and gave him the nickname "Jake " which he is affectionately called today.

Lewis graduated from the Dorchester County Public School System and later attended the Community College of Baltimore. Lewis was on the track and field team at his high school. They traveled throughout the counties for competitions and he would always come home with trophies and medals. He and his cousins made up a replica of a 100 yard dash between Grandma Nona's house and Miss Sula's house. Every day, the cousins would race Jake, but could never beat him to the finish line.

Later, he worked for NASA before joining the United States Marine Corp, April 25, 1971. He received a honorable discharge from the Marines and was employed by the Baltimore National Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland until he retired. After his retirement, he relocated back to Dorchester County and became a member of multiple organizations on the Eastern Shore. He constantly enforced the rules of his organizations and wouldn't accept anything less than the proper protocol. At the time of his death, Lewis was the Commander of Howard J. Purnell Memorial, American Legion Post #145. A Member of Eastern Shore Chapter, Disabled American Veterans #34; Sgt. Walter F. "Trae" Cohee III Detachment #115, Marine Corps League; Lamech Lodge No. 30 (FAM,PHA) and VFW Men's Auxiliary Unit 10159 all of Salisbury, Maryland.
