Obituary

In the early morning of Tuesday, March 11, 2008, God quietly called home to rest his devoted child Lillian T. Lewis. Lillian Theodore Lewis, daughter of Robert Lewis and Jerline Banks Lewis, was born January 11, 1919 in Gloucester, Virginia. ''Lill,'' as she was affectionately called, came to Baltimore at a very young age with a relative after her mother's death. Her aunt worked for a prominent family who lived in Guilford, After the aunt died the Meyers family kept Lill. She lived with the Meyers family through her school years. Lill received her education in the Baltimore public school system. After completing Douglass High School, she attended and graduated from Coppin Teachers College. Lill taught elementary school for almost forty years. She continued her education by attending New York University to received her masters degree. Lill was an avid reader and loved to travel. She has been across the U.S., Alaska and Europe. She joined Providence Baptist Church early in life. For many years she was an active member of the Edna E. Over Service Club and taught Sunday school. After leaving the Meyers family, Lill made her home with her school friend Charlotte Watkins. She was considered a member of the Watkins family. Lill was godmother to Charlotte's sons, Norman, William and Charles. They loved her and considered her their second mother. She leaves to rejoice in her memory; her brother, Wesley Lewis; a sister, Belle Carrington; a cousin, Geraldine Smith; Charlotte's sons, grandsons and granddaughters, three great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter and a host of family and friends.
