Obituary

Lillian Evelyn Sands was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 27, 1917 to the late Lee Andrew Wallace and Mary Emma Wallace. Lillian was the 6th of eight children. On March 5, 2010 the Lord quietly and peacefully called her "home." Lillian received her formal education from the Colored Vacational School which later became Douglas High School in Baltimore, Maryland. "Lil," as she was affectionately known, became a seamstress and was employed by a woman named Alberta Sands. Alberta introduced Lillian to her nephew Edlo Sands and in 1946 the two wee jioned in holy matrimony. From this union were one daughter and two sons. She worked for Stewart & Co. from which she retired early to help care for her grandchild. She was not worried about the penalties of early retirement because family was always a priority for her. Lillian was a faithful member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church and never missed a Sunday. It was a household rule that if you did not attend church - you did not go outside. She instilled a love for God in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lillian held many position throughout her tenue at Ebenezer, most notably as Steward Emeritus, Lifetime Member of the Missionary Society and an original member of the "Precious Gems." Lillian led a very active lifestyle well into her 80's. You could catch her on any given day driving herself and her best friend, the late Berdella Saunders, to various activies; the soup kitchen on Thursdays, the Waxter Center on Wednesdays, to delaware on Tuesdays and of course church on Sunday. Lillian was a mother to three, a grandmother to six and a great-grandmother to 12, but she adopted a host of sons and daughters. She was always known for her hospitality at her home that was affectionately known as th "Sand Motel." Not only were you greeted with a smile and or a nod of the head, but she instilled a sense of belonging and a sense of home to many. she always shared her pearls of wisdom with a side of her fmous sweet potato pie and potato salad. Lillian's husband Edlo Sands and her son Edlo Allen Sands preceded her in death. Lillian leaves thankful for the life she lived; two children, Rosalyn Ivy Davis and Edwain Anthony "Tony" Sands; six grandchildren, Renee Scott Blount, Raquuel Evelyn "Kelly" Scott, Rhonda Evelyn Williams, Dellyse Maxine Bright, Jacquelyn Daniele Seabrooks and Allen Eugene Sands; four grand-sons-in-law, Wesley Blout Jr., Joe Williams, Jamal Bright and Mark Seabrooks; twelve great-grandchildren; three godchildren, Bette Cloud, Robert Danald and Dana Owens; sister-in-law, Delores Wallace; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, many devoted friends and God-adopted children.
