Lofton Williams, Sr. was born September 17,1928 to Ella Lee Williams in Pelican, LA. Lofton was raised by his uncle Peter and aunt Frances. He was educated in the public school system in Pelican, LA. He enlisted into the United States Army after graduating from high school. He served during World War 11 and was honorably discharged on July 14,1949. While stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland he would often visit Baltimore, Maryland where he met and married Mary E. Johnson. From this union the couple had seven children. Mary Williams went home to be with the Lord, April of 2006. He worked at the Sheet Metal Lithographing Company in Baltimore, Maryland , for twenty plus years. Lofton enjoyed all types of music. On Sunday mornings the house would resonate with the sounds of Mahalia Jackson, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, the Five Blind Boys and many other gospel singers. His favorite dishes to cook were orka and collard greens with a hefty dash of hot sauce. Lofton was not a member of The New Shiloh Baptist Church, but would regularly attend church each Sunday, always sitting in the rear at door number five. He enjoyed Pastor preaching the Word of God. His favorite saying was, "Keep on Keeping on" whenever he was departing your presence. He enjoyed all sports, particularly baseball and football He and his friend/brother-in-law, William Parker (PeeWee) would have the best of times discussing the outcome of the games. Lofton briefly lived in Norwalk, Conn, where he worked and retired from Wheels Transit. He leaves to cherish memories: his children, Lofton Williams, Jr. (preceded in death), Nathaniel Paul Williams, Cynthia Gail Williams, Jeanette Rosalind Coo-per (husband-James Cooper), Kim Denise Williams, David Harold Williams, and Abigail Williams; step-daughters, Marti Scott and Kourtnee Neves; also, the proud father of Kent Williams, Keyndra Williams, and Kelly Williams; his siblings, Bobbie Willis (husband-A.C. Willis), Eloise Easley, Tom Gamble, Nathaniel Porter (deceased) and Theola Wood (deceased). 22 grandchildren, 16 greatgrandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
