Life Reflections
I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith
2 Timothy 4:7
Lois Louise Smith, daughter of the late Clarine Barnes and Jackson Winbourne Barnes Sr., was born December 13, 1944, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. She departed this life on November 22, 2021, after a short illness. She was proceeded in death by her siblings Mary Elizabeth Mapp and Jackson Winbourne Barnes Jr. and her bonus grandson, Charles Williams III.
She received her education at Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore and was employed at Baltimore Uniform as an office manager until 1992. She had a VERY SPECIAL LOVE for her garden and enjoyed watching westerns, home renovation and cooking shows. Lois was loved and cared for by everyone who crossed her path due to her quiet, calming nature and bright smile. She was full of love and laughter and was a dependable listening ear for all and was often called mommy or grandma even by those outside of the family. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays to share with family. She also enjoyed her favorite snacks; ice cream and Lay's original potato chips (.25 cent bag only, lol). Lois was the life of family gatherings and loved to dance to James Brown and Al Green.
Lois leaves to cherish her memory; two daughters, Ewanda Brooks, Stephanie Holbrook Nichols; two sons-in-law, James U. Brooks Jr., Melton Nichols III; three grandsons, Deon'ta Reed Sr. (Her baby boy), D'Angelo Lilly (The one and only) and Detrich Jordan (Poo Poo); two granddaughters-in-law, Airiel, Jasmea; two great grandsons, Deon'ta Reed Jr., Drue Reed; one great granddaughter, Jordan Lilly; one sister-in-law Mary Barnes; one nephew, Kennard (who she loved like a son), four special nieces; Karen, Katrina, Keisha, Katia; one great niece, Tiffany; two great nephews, Tyrell, Tiawan and a host of great-great nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
