IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lucille D.
Cooper
May 21, 1920 – September 24, 2018
Lucille Cooper, daughter of the late John and Holmer Day,
was born on May 21, 1920 in North Thumberland County, VA.
She departed this life on September 24, 2018. She was the
oldest of eight siblings.
At age 21, Lucille moved to Baltimore, where she married
the late Willie West. After he departed she married the late
Elwood Cooper. From these unions Lucille was blessed with
six children: Ruth, Anne, Silas, Viola, Freddie and Fannie.
Lucille gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was known
to be determined, strong-willed and hardworking. Knowing
that her life experiences went far beyond what we could ever
imagine, helps to understand and appreciate why so many
called her
"
feist
y
."
Just imagine having separate schools,
separate dressing rooms, and separate bathrooms because
of the color of your skin. Weare blessed to have had
someone in our midst who lived during this time. Despite
what she witnessed, Lucille did not walk with a spirit of pity
but one of a Strong, Proud, Black woman who took what she
lived through to become the determined person she was at
98 years old.
Cherishing Lucille's memory are her six children,
Ruth
and Phillip
Gerald,
Anne
and Frank Butler,
Silas West
,
Viola
and
Robert Bomar,
Freddie West
,
and
Fannie Boone.
One sister,
Priscilla Sutton, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren,
5 great-great grandchildren and a host of other family members
and friends.
