Lucy Gray was born May 1, 1936 in Simpson, North Carolina to the late John Henry and and Estella Gray. Lucy was called home to rest Monday July 6, 2009 after suffering from a brief illness. Lucy, affectionately known as "Momma" received her education in Simpson North Carolina. She attended True Light Baptist Chuch where she was an active member for many years. Momma's greatest hobbies were cooking, playing cards and drinking "Pepsi". Lucy was a very friendly and well-loved person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Lucy was a very humble and caring person, the type who was quiet but would speak when spoken to. She made everyone laugh and brought joy to all who knew her. "Momma" was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. As she enters the heavenly gates, she leaves to cherish her memories; five children: Lucille Jones, William Gray who proceeds her death, Vanessa Brown Turnipseed-El; Maxine Brown Small and Thiwite Dechamps; two son-in-laws: Willie Small and Michael Turnipseed El; one sister: Ranay Crawford; three brothers: John Henry, Clarence Gray and Gregory Fletcher; ; one sister-in-law: Aretha Gray; one brother-in-law: Garland Crawford; thirteen grandchildren; eight great grand children; one grandson -in-law; two devoted friends: Arlene Taylor and Shirleen Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
