Obituary

Lucy Mbugua was born on January 10, 1954 in Ndeiya location, Kiambu district of Central province in Kenya. Her parents. Late David Mbugua Kabue and Mary Wambui Mbagu were farmers in Ndeiya where Lucy grew up. She attended primary education at Gathugucu primary school and secondary education at Ngarariga Girls High school from 1970 to 1975. In 1982 she was admited to Iregi Teachers College Girls High school from 1970 to 1982 she was admitted to Iregi Teachers College to pursue training as a teacher and graduated in 1982. Her first teaching ost was at Nairobi Primary school where she taught business education from 1982 to 1993 to Kenya Certificate of Primary Education KCPE candidates. In 1994, after more than a decade of teaching, Lucy wanted a new challenge in life. She had passion for helping other people and was seeking a new environment that would give her a fresh start. In 1993 she emmigrated to the United States and the following year enrolled at Washington Bible college between 1994 to 1995. Later that year she joined University of the District of Columbia and attained her LPN Licenced Practical Nurse. Nursing would provide an avenue to work but also showed the compassionate side that Lucy nutured throughout her life. But before she could start working , Lucy had one burning desire she wanted to fulfil, to be re-united with her daughter Natalie Muthoni. Lucy was able to not only be re-united but returned to the United states with Natalia in 2003. Sadly after her return she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. She battled cancer the first time and was in remission before the desease recurred. On Monday April 9th she succumbed to cancer after a battle bravely borne. Lucy was first a community person, alwasys willing to reach out and help others. There was a part of her heart that could only be fullfilled by serving others, the same way she served the Lord. In Kenya, she would volunteer to take people to the hospital or reach out to girls who had come to Nairobi seeking assistance. She educated children of her friends and while working in the U.S. She had a deep and uniquely warm heart. Lucy also had an amazing way of dealing with the most pressing of problems. She never panicked. She was calm, composed and always positive in the fave of any kind of adversity. A lot of this stemmed from her love of the Lord and her desire to serve God. She was very active in the local Kenya christian community fellowships, especially the Kenya Christine Fellowship of America. She also attended the Baraka Worship Center. Her life is a testimony of the growth and manifestation of the purest human heart; kind, gentle and willing to help others - it never mattered if she knew you. Until her death, she worked with HamburgCenter in Leigh, PA. as a nurse. She is survived by three brother - James Mbagu, Peter Kabue and the late Geoffrey Kiarie and four sisters; Hannah Njoki, Eunice Wanjiku, Penninah Njambi, Grace Gathoi who are all resident in Kenya and her daughter Natalia Muthoni and mother Mary Wambui Mbagu.
