For I am already being poured like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, and I kept the faith. So often we meet individuals whose lives leave a lasting impression on others, and such was the life of Lula Mae "Nish" Coit. Lula loved Jehovah, and she loved her family and friends. She was an excellent daughter, devoted sister, loving wife, exceptional mother, caring aunt, faithful friend, committed neighbor and dedicated servant. Luia was born on October 31,1921 in Cheraw, South Carolina. She was the youngest child of the late James and Bessie McQueen. Lula's siblings were Mary, Benny, Carrie, Ann and Essie Mae, who all preceded her in death. Lula attended public schools in Cheraw, South Carolina, where she met and married the late Willie T. Coit, Sr. After giving birth to their first son, Willie T. Coit, Jr. ("Pop"), Lula and her family moved to Baltimore, Maryland in the early 1950's. In Baltimore, Lula gave birth to three additional children, Leon, Edward and Olivia ("Jean"). Two of Lula's sons preceded her in death, Leon in March 1969, while serving on a tour of duty in Vietnam, and Willie T. Coit, Jr. ("Pop") in December 2010, after a lengthy illness. Lula devoted her life to her family and worked as a homemaker. As her children grew older, she worked as a home health aide. Lula Mae Coit departed this life on October 21, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. Left to cherish her memory: her son, Edward Coit of Baltimore, and her daughter Olivia "Jean" Coit-Carroll of Baltimore; nephews, Charles and Anthony McQueen of Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Larry Spann, Willie Coit, III, Shirley Hinton, Jameel Brown and Startisha Coit; eight great-grandchildren, Jameel Brown, Jr., Nysha Brown, Nyshera Brown, Cameron Hinton, Serenity Coit, Sage Hinton, Anala Brown and Quran Lyde; and a host of other family and friends.
