Obituary

Mrs. Luvenia Pender-Chase, daughter of the late Jonah and Ardelia Pender, was born on October 17, 1928 in Wilson, North Carolina; and affectionately known as "Lou." She departed this life on June 2, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Luvenia was a kind, loving, caring, and a sweet woman of God. She had a God-given quiet strength. Her favorite Scripture was Psalm 23. She was gentle and humble in spirit. Luvenia was conservative, classy and confident; and she was a forgiving person. She was raised very well by her parents in a God fearing Christian home, and gave her life to Christ at the age of 16. She attended St. John A.M.E Zion Church in Wilson, North Carolina and Bethel A.M.E. Church in Baltimore, Maryland. She served as an Usher and sung on the choir for many years in Wilson. Luvenia graduated and received her education in the Wilson public school system at Darden High School. She attended Fayetteville State University formerly known as Fayetteville State Teachers College during her tenure in the 1950's. She enjoyed attending high school and college. She sung on the choir at her high school and college. She loved being a cheer leader in college. Her college football years were some of her greatest years during that time. She was employed during her high school and college years. Recently, she rededicated her life to Christ on May 22, 2015. In 1952, after college and studying to become a teacher, Luvenia relocated to Baltimore, Maryland and married the late William Edward Chase; they had seven children. Luvenia raised six girls and one boy; she raised them all to know God's character and to serve God. During her marriage she desired to become a medical doctor. William would bring her medical books home to read and study prior to attending medical school. Even while considering medical school, Luvenia decided to raise her family of seven children. Six of her children entered into the medical profession as they grew into adulthood due to her medical stories told at the dinner table in her home. She strictly made the decision to raise her own children and not attend medical school. She was a faithful devoted wife and mother to her husband and children; and she loved her family in Wilson. She spoke words of truth and wisdom. She always made sure that she put her family basic needs first before her own; and she would go an extra mile to help her family and other people. Luvenia was a very giving person. She helped raise several of her grand children as her daughters went to school and worked. She always had a job with babysitting her grand children or helping a neighbor with their children. She provided meals and shelter for those in need for family members or people that she knew. She became her husband William's care-giver in their home for ten years during his lengthy illness instead of putting him in a nursing home. Luvenia served by giving monetary donations to the Veterans Disability Society, St. Labre Indian School for children, United Negro College Fund, and several other associations for many years. She was absolutely a great wife, mother, and friend. She was very well respected and honored by many people. Luvenia leaves her children to mourn: Cheryl, Reginald, Sheila, Rosalind, Ardelia, Jacquelyn, and one son-in-law, Eric Filmore. She also leaves to mourn her grand children: Derrick, Kizzi, Kenny, Latasha, Keith, and Christopher. Her family from Wilson, North Carolina: Brothers, Reverend Harry Pender and James Pender. Sister: Dorothy Pender, and several nephews and nieces. A very special niece: Lia Tucker. She leaves to mourn: Annette Lee, The Little Family, Sheree Carter Chase, Sis. Phyllis Myrick, Ms. Bee, Alice Lee, and a host of great grand children, other relatives, her medical team, extended family and friends. Luvenia will deeply be missed and never forgotten. We cherish her love and faithfulness! Viewing Joseph H. Brown Jr. Funeral Home Wednesday, June 10, 2015 03:00 PM - 08:00 PM Email Details 2140 N. Fulton Ave.
