September 16, 1921 – May 15, 2016
Mable Hill, was born September 16,1921 in White Stone, VA She
was one of ten children born to the late George A and Fannie C.
Hill. She departed this life on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at home,
peacefully in her sleep.
At an early age, she was baptized at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church,
where she also served as a member of the Junior Choir. She
obtained her education in the Virginia public school system,
graduating from A J. Wright High School, after which she moved to
Baltimore City to pursue her career.
During WWII, she manufactured war materials at Edgewood
Arsenal. Later, she worked as a domestic for several prominent
families in Baltimore City. In the 1960s after receiving training as a
cook at Carver Vocational School, she obtained a position as a cook
at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Rectory, served as AR.A at several
college cafeterias, and at Bluefeld Caterers, where she retired in
1986.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She leaves to mourn
her passing four daughters, Elizabeth L. Peace, Doris B. Savoy,
Barbara A Graves, and Ernestine Franklin, one son, George
Franklin, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by one son, Edward A Franklin. She leaves
to cherish her precious memories, many nieces (11), nephews (2),
and several cousins. Mable was the last of her brothers and sisters.
