North Carolina to th e proud par e nt s of R o l and and Matti e (Dunn) K e arn ey.

and remained marri e d until s e parated b y d e ath . S e ptember of 19 57,
a l ong with h e r lat e husband (Jo se ph) and th e ir thr e e daught e r s , th e
family e mbark e d on a n ew journ ey for a b etter lif e. Th ey se ttled in
Ba
l timor e and ha v e thu s resid e d h e r e for th e pa s t 61 y ears .

e rvic es at Founta i n B ap t ist Chur c h . She e nj oyed t h e services
s o w e ll she decided Fountain w as th e C h urch to ca ll home and beca m e
a memb
e r in 1959 under th e l e ad e r s hip of t h e l ate R e v . D e nni s Barrow .
S h e h as b ee n a m e mb e r of Fountain Baptist Church for the past 60 y ears .
A s a m e mber , she serv e d with th e Flower Circle, and w a s on e of th e
seamstr e s s and c o s tum e d e signers for Th e Dramatic Gu il d . Sh e l ov e d
Fountain and made man
y friend s . Whi l e in good hea l th, s h e rar e l y
missed a s
e r v i ce.

Sh e wa s a r e nowned seamstr e s s and made garments for h er daught e rs ,
th e ir friend s and many peop l e w h o needed som e th in g different for t h at
sp
e cia l occasi o n . Her s e wing ta l ent s and ski ll s are inh e rit e d by her

e r G e rri . Sh e was a da y car e provider for t h e chi l d r en of
familie
s in the n eig hb orhood as we l l a s man y of th e i r friends , in h e r

, regardl e ss of race. The parents knew that their chi l dren we r e

ll car e d for and oft e n r e comm e nd e d h e r se rvice to th e ir fri e nd s.

Sunda y Dinners and H olidays was th e gat h ering p l ac e for h e r fami l y
and many of th
e ir fri e nds . D uring h e r e arl y ye ar s Mom wou l d can

s and vegetab l es that h e r fami l y f e ast e d on y e ar rou nd. Sh e
cou l d m a k e di fferent t y p e s of candy, p i es and cakes. Sh e not on l y
m ade sur e that h e r children was nev e r hungry, she made sur e that
th
e ir frie n ds or the uninvit e d gue s ts t h at her h usband oft e n brought
home w
e r e we ll f e d . Mom ' s m o t to was a l wa ys cook e nough food s o
that if an
y one unexpect e d dropp e d b y you had e nough for an e x tra
p
l ate . Cookin g was on e of her g r eat p l e a s ur e s .
