Obituary

Maggie Dukes, daughter of the late Lillian Redmon and Edward Lemon and mother of the late William and Bernard Redmond, was born on November 8, 1938 in Glouster, Virginia. She departed this life on October 28, 2007 after a brief illness and a fatal accidental injury. She received her education at Douglass High School in Baltimore, Maryland. At an early age, she began employment at McGilliery's Drug Store as a cashier/host. As a result of her love for people, she changed her profession and became one of Baltimore's best-loved barmaids. During her professional career, she was adored and well loved by all who patronized her place of employment. In the years to follow she attempted on several occasions to retire, but she did not fully retire until 2005, due to physical restraints. She married Roosevelt Dukes, her long time love, friend and confidant in her later years. The time that they shared was full of life, joy and parties. She and her husband enjoyed and treasured the company of their family and friends. Maggie had an abundance of friends of all ages, who honored their friendship with her by showering her with gifts and giving several parties each year to celebrate her life. Her favorite motto was, ''Always be kind to people and convey a loving attitude.'' She leaves to mourn: her husband, Roosevelt Dukes; daughter , Sandra M. Jones; stepdaughter, Shelly Dukes-Draine; stepson, Herman McClain; stepson-in-law, Delano Draine, Sr; two stepgrandchildren, Delano Draine Jr. and Jena Draine; sister-in-law, Ella Blackmon; godson, Kevin Jones; goddaughter, Delphia Edwards; aunts, Ella Scott and Edna Reeves; best friend Bessie Butler, Walt and the ''Jiggs'' family; and a host of other relatives, adopted children and friends.
