Obituary

Major Canty Jr, the son of the late Rose Anna (Byrd) Canty and the late Major Canty Sr. was born on June 9, 1948 in Baltimore, MD. Major was the youngest of three siblings. He is predeceased by a brother, James. Major entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 6, 2013. Major was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Dunbar High School in 1966. Major joined the United States Navy, where he received an honorable discharge, he was proud to be called a "Veteran". Major was united in holy matrimony to Stephanie Canty, from this union one daughter, Chante, was born. Major was employed at various companies for many years before joining the Edge-wood Mgt Company (Weinberg House) where he remained employed up to the time of his retirement. Major had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal savior, and was so excited to have found Redemption Church, where lie joined and became an active member. He was well known by the pastor and the congregation. Major was a loved member of the church family. This summer one of his greatest joys was telling family and friends about his church's new location. He felt most blessed by his ability to walk into the doors of the church on their first Sunday. "Baldy" as Major was affectionately called by family and friends was an energetic and outgoing person who never was at lost for words in any setting. He truly had a love for life. Baldy loved sports and was always planning a Ravens game party. Baldy was an avid reader; two of his favorite authors were James Patterson and John Grisham. He yearned to stay abreast and engage in conversations about local and national events. Baldy had become a man that loved to travel, locally or abroad maybe it was the "Sailor" in him, because he was most excited when he was preparing to go or just returning from a cruise (Jamaica, Caymans, Grand Turk, Bahamas), to name a few. He was always calling his friends bragging about his last fishing trip or inquiring about "when is the next fishing trip". Baldy could always be depended upon if he promised you he was going to do something. Terri Dinkins was a committed and devoted soul mate, and friend to Baldy. Major leaves to cherish his memory: Stephanie Canty (wife); three daugters, Tracie, Tamika and Chante; one sister, Roxie Grier Forbes (Curtis); five nephews, Ronnie, Billy, Tony, Andre and Lionel; three step children, Alisha, Courtney, and Royette; a cousin that was like his brother, Carlton Gordon; a very close cousin, Sandra Wilson; an adopted mother, Geo Charles; adopted brothers, Curtis, Russell and Chris; an adopted nephew, Brian Hicks, his loyal companion, Terri (son Jamal); his closest buddy and constant sidekick Jimmie Grates and a host of relatives and friends.
