On March 24th, 1933, Marcella V. Smith was born to the late William E. Bowman and Rosie M. Green. From an early age, "Jenny" or "Jenny Girl" as she was affectionately known, had an adventurous spirit. Educated in the Baltimore School system, she was able to maintain her wandering spirit until she graduated high school, when she immediately left Baltimore to see and experience the world. While doing so, she met and married Louis Leon Smith in Missouri, and soon thereafter returned to Baltimore with her daughters, Vonzella and Valerie, and her son, Eugene. Having discovered and developed a love and skill in cooking, Marcella began working for Kurst Restaurants and Caterers, a job which she enjoyed for several years. Soon afterwards, Marcella met the late William N. Tate, and through this union were born her son, Michael, and her daughter, Lisa. "Marci" or "Marcel" as she was affectionately known by her friends, loved to listen to music and to dance, and would never miss out on the opportunity to play a game of Spades, KENO, Bid Whist, or Bingo. She also loved to shop and to make her own jewelry. In her later years, Marcella came to know and enjoy her greatest love: her grandchildren. Simply known to them all as "Grandma", she developed a truly deep love for all seven of her grandchildren, all fourteen of her great grandchildren, and her one great-great grandchild. On April 15th, 2013, Marcella was called home to rest after a lengthy illness. She will be fondly remembered by the family and friends that she left behind.
