Margaret Holland Carter was born on February 2, 1935, to the late
Naomi Rebecca and Christopher Columbus Wallace. She surrendered to
eternal rest on December 28, 2015.
Margaret affectionately known as "Mom Mom" to her family and "Sissy"
to her siblings, attended Lothian Elementary School and graduated from
Bates High School in 1953. She received her bachelor's degree from Maryland
State Teachers College at Bowie in 1957. After receiving her degree, she first
taught in Anne Arundel County Public Schools before moving to the
Baltimore City Public School System. During her career, Margaret decided to
take a sabbatical to continue her education and take care of her expanding
family. In this time she completed her Master of Education in Special
Education and a Master of Education in Administration. Margaret completed
all of the required coursework towards the acquisition of a doctoral degree, all
but dissertation. She returned to the classroom for a short time before
ascending to the office of Principal Administrator and ended her career as
Director of Special Education Programs for the Baltimore City School System.
One of her proudest accomplishments was starting an automotive
program for children with different abilities. Despite her dedication to a
successful and fulfilling career, Margaret retired with a renewed determination
to care for her family.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Stevie Melroy Carter;
son, Thomas Christopher; granddaughter Shekia, brothers, Earl and Robert
Wallace; two brothers-in-law, Ronald and Robert Carter; sisters, Mary
Francis (Merle), Alice (James),Emily Cash (George), Joan Preston (Louis),
Davis (Dave).
Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her children Cheryl, Joci,
Steven, Shelley (Antoine),Stace:y: (Carvell), Stuart, and Brian (Christine);
sisters, Mary Sutton (Randolph),. Goldie Wallace; four sisters- in-law, Patricia
Cartel Patricia Fleming, 1'helma~W allace and Rosalee Wallace; ten
grandchildren: Cedric, Charles, Antione, Christopher, Morgan, Shea,
Norwood, Toi,Yusuf and Autumn; and a host ofloving nieces, nephews,
