Obituary

MARIAN MAXINE DAVIS CONLEY, the daughter of the late George

Nelson Davis and Lillie Love Davis Blackwell, was born on March 21, 1927 in

Newcomerstown, Ohio. She entered into eternal rest on August 3, 2019 under

the loving, watchful eye of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was the seventh of nine children, all of whom preceded her in death.

When she was an infant, her parents relocated to Reidsville, North Carolina.

At the age of three, she went to live with her uncle and aunt, the Reverend

John Hardin and Carrie Love Davis in Sylva, North Carolina. She soon came

to know that she not only had eight brothers and sisters in Reidsville, but

she now had now had first cousins that were like brothers and sisters in the

Davis Family, of which there were four; and first cousins in the Pettit family,

of which there were twelve. They all succeeded in spoiling her rotten. It was

in Sylva, at the tender age of five, as she would tell the story, she met the love

of her life and one that would become her companion for a lifetime, Leon F.

Conley, Sr.

Marian began her education in the public schools of Jackson County, North

Carolina where her aunt and uncle were both teachers. When it was time to

attend high school, she joined her parents and siblings in Reidsville, North

Carolina and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Rockingham

County, North Carolina at 16 years of age.

After graduation, she headed to Washington, DC and began her first job with

the federal government. She maintained her courtship with Leon and, upon

his honorable discharge from the United States Navy in 1946, they were

married and settled in Baltimore. Their union was blessed with one son, Leon

Conley, Jr. After living in an apartment on Fulton Avenue for several years,

they secured their first home in the Forest Park Community and lived there for

more than forty years. When they moved to the Forest Park neighborhood,

they became members of the Forest Park Presbyterian Church, now known as

The Forest Park Community Church where she maintained her membership

until her health began to fail.

During Leon Jr.'s elementary school years, Marian was a stay-at-home mom

who spent her time doting on the "apple of her eye." In later years, she went

to work as an electrical technician for the CGR Medical Group which was

previously owned by Westinghouse. She retired in 1984.

Marian and Leon, who were married fifty-two years, enjoyed family life. They

were able to travel the country visiting family and friends every year. She

especially liked visiting her brother in Tacoma, Washington and her sisters

and brothers in North Carolina and her sister in New York. She also enjoyed

trips to Detroit to visit Leon's mother and his sister and brother-in-law. Their

grandsons were often beneficiaries of their love for travel and made many of

those trips with them. Eight years after Leon's death she went to live with her

.son and daughter-in-law where she resided until her death.

We rejoice in knowing that Marian is now reunited with her beloved Leon,

her parents, and her siblings: Mattie, Lovie, William, Harden, Annie Eliza,

Gertrude, Hazel, and Donald.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted son and daughter-in-law, Leon and

Brenda; two grandsons, Leon III and Kraig; and two great-grandchildren, Keon

and Keayra, two godsons, Joey and Jeffrey Lee; many nieces and nephews, and

a host of relatives and friends.
