Marian Marie (Hopkins) Watkins (aka Sissy, Granny, Baby Sis, Molly) was born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Winfield Sr. and Mildred Hopkins on January 1, 1936. On Saturday December 23, 2017 God placed her in His garden of fairer skies then mortal eyes can look upon her.
She received Christ as her personal Savior at a very early age. She joined Ames Memorial United Methodist Church. She held various positions in the church, where she served faithfully until her health failed.
Sissy was educated in the Baltimore City Public School system. She went to work at the age of 12 years old scrubbing steps on Sanford Place and working for a Jewish lady on Brooks Lane. She was later employed by the Baltimore City School System as a food service worker. She was employed for 31 years, and retired in 1996. On May 24,1952 she married the late Nathanial Barber in which 5 children were born, later she had four more children by Thomas A. Spriggs. On June 18, 1988 she married Robert L. Watkins Sr., and they remained married and had a friendship that she cherished. We praise God for the life of Marian M. Watkins.
She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband Robert L. Watkins Sr, 7 children, Natalie Truesdale, Pastor Bernard Barber (Marie), Thomas Spriggs (Kim) Rene Hunter (Bernie), Leon Barber, Zina Spriggs (Wade) and Darlene Martin (Jeffrey), Diane Laws, and Maurice Barber preceded her in death. 5 step-children, Barbara Ann, Rochelle, Robert Jr. Leslie and Craig, 15 grandchildren Kim, Sandra, Anton, Latoya, Shawn, Denise, Shelbert, Tanika, Tara, Tenika, Lemmel Sr., Danielle, Brandi, Cori, Briana. 14 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, 1 Sister, Ernestine Hopkins-Jones, 1 brother, Leon Hopkins, (3 brothers preceded her in death, Winfield, Bernard, and Alfred Hopkins), 2 son-in-laws, some very special sisters and brother-in-Iaws and a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and relatives.
